well, according to the hotel's website, they don't have any more rooms for that weekend. so, I'm gunna keep trying and hope someone cancels or something, what the hay, there's still a few months left.
and there is a hotel less than a mile away that isn't as snazzy but it's a little cheaper and I could always cancel that one if I get A room at the Marriot.

I'd love to go but I know that I can't. (1) I'm staying in Dallas all summer so it's farther and I won't have a car or my brother to drag with me, (2)I'll be in Washington DC from August 7 through 10, because the next weekend school starts. =(
If someone needs registration, Fan, could you have mine and my brother's from last year forwarded to them?

It'll cost me 200 bucks to fly round-trip no-stop from here to St. Louis, a hundred bucks a night (50 if I go half with Moony) for hotel rooms, that's 400 bucks, then another couple hundred for miscellaneous expenses, and the 50 bucks for registration... This is turning out to take up a few paychecks.
But it'll be worth it.
Especially if the hotel gets a cancellation and we can snag a room there.

Yeah, it'll be a lot of fun and totally worth it. Do keep calling daily you guys. And that seems a little high, 13, but better to over estimate than under estimate I guess. I'm hoping Evelyn gets back online soon so I can discuss some plans with her. I plan to fly to Michigan for July, then maybe to Wisconsin or Fort Myers (FL) for few days to meet someone and then fly to Iowa, flying into the same airport as last years, or if things go well, somewhere else. Need Evelyn for that though.

Hrm...
Lette isn't going, so I'm gonna need to change my flights to Iowa and find transportation from the airport to the con hotel.

Okay, let's brainstorm.
Who would like to partcipate in doing a panel? What are your ideas?
I liked some of these ideas:
What is damaging anime fandom
What NOT to do at a con
Life in highschool if you were in an anime
Survival strategies for a con (do not rely on the consuite)
How to create a comic page
Any other ideas are welcomed. This is just a brainstorming stage.
Also, what do you guys think of doing a room party? I kinda don't know exactly what they do in them or anything, just trying different ideas. I want this year to be as filled as possible. XD I also plan not to be elusive'ish like I was last year. (Didn't talk that much).

Unfortunately, I won't be going. I have a couple personal issues with going, one of which involves money and the inability to get anyone to pay for me this time.
I will however suggest not paneling something that attendees are likely to do better than you (and may even have a panel resembling this): that means stay away from that comic page idea. Life in high school is just dumb and perpetuates high school AUs, really; in fact, it's basically just discussing plots for high school AUs and I doubt anyone wants to be involved in that. "What is damaging" has wank factor -- most people at the con won't agree with you because most of them will be those badfic writers we see and criticize all the time; you'll offend at least one person, I'm sure. "What not to do at a con" can have the previous applied but you can get around that much more easily; best idea so far, especially if you put it into "survival strategies" as a subtopic.
Survival strats is the best one you mentioned but iffy because you've gone to how many cons compared to some of the people likely to show up? Fan would be good at it, I'm sure; the others, I dunno. And you need a good public speaker. Who in the list is a good one? Mac and Mandy possibly but I don't really know; I don't know about Fan since I handled most of the panel after I arrived and spent 5 minutes reviewing the scheduled topics.

Well, excuse me for suggesting the ideas (all but the comic idea was suggested by AI forum, I am keeping a very close eye on them and their panels). It was to get a jump start on brainstorming and have fun with ideas. Sheesh. I knew that there are reasons behind some of the panel ideas like you listed, and wasn't even considering them in the final panel idea. You know, most ideas that are stated first, don't usually end up as being the one to do. I had a feeling that someone would criticize the ideas, but I had no idea it would be this early on.
I have public speaking skills (even more so with my speech class), thank you very much, and panels don't just have only one speaker, you know that. So, we don't really need to just rely on only one. You really haven't seen me in front of an audience and talk, however quiet I may be, have you? I love spotlight, I feed on that energy, and channel that into public speaking. I am sorry for not showing up at the panel last year to show you my l33+ skillz.
Really, any topics can be covered by anyone by the means of research, though, personal experience is more commonly preferred. I now know how to create a comic page through copious weeks worth of research, and besides, people will discuss about it, broadening the subject even more (but well within the constraints of the outline discussed when signing up for a panel).
People of all levels will be coming to contribute in some way. I don't plan to have a panel where I'm going to be doing all of the talking. I expect quite a bit of interaction and will plan a panel around that. (Along with teaching and discussing; I would supply them few pieces of paper, straight edge and a pencil and teach that way, no matter the level they are. I would gladly welcome any input who have been doing it longer than I have.
[Would love to get some experience in teaching in preparation for my Education major]
So, anyone, please, don't be a realist at this point, I did say to brainstorm in my last post, which means this wasn't a time to criticize the ideas. It is all done in fun planning. Thanks. 9_9 (I do apologize in advance for my bitchiness in this post, however, I thought criticizing of ideas was uncalled for at this point in time.)
Anyway. I would love to do a fun panel.
Some other ideas (off the top of my head):
Mediaminer panel
archives dos and don'ts (like, what you should put in your fan art gallery for places like DA and MMO)
online etiquettes
Fanfiction dos and don'ts
Fanfiction hentai
Fanfiction bandwagon
Art Hints (help with some artwork ideas)
How to survive a zombie attack
forum role playing etiquettes
How to plagiarize works discussion (why some do it, etc)
Don't not meet new people at cons (could be an ice breaker panel for new comers)
How to take good con pictures (photography related, like, how to really understand your camera)
Cosplay (make'em, buy'em, commission'em, photo shoots, etc)
Let's get the ideas rollin'~

I'll say it now and only once, Rini. If you have a problem with me, don't lash out on a civil forum. Or at all, maybe? I was trying to help and the reason the first ideas don't end up in the final set are because someone shoots them down. Maybe you should at least thank me for doing that so you can move on to better ideas? Or for offering to help, spending my own time on something I won't even get to enjoy?
Yes, there is a point to being realistic because that is how you get rid of the bad ideas and get to the good ones. I'm glad you think so highly of yourself but you don't exactly instill confidence if you can't take criticism without lashing out at me.
Any panels focusing on MM.o would be great for publicity, which we do kind of sorely need nowadays.

Well, we can do two, three birds with one stone. Helpful hints on their works in fanfiction, fanart and mention MM.o on the side? Because that's one thing what MM.o is--an archive of fanfiction and fanart. Not to mention that we have FARG that would really help them even more.

well, Six and Lette aren't going. So I'll try and find a ride. I read somewhere there is a bus in the cities that's headed down there I'll see if I can't snag that or something.

*bangs head on wall*
So I said earlier in this thread that we actually HAD a table? Well we had just sent in the reg form and I had assumed we had it. Truth is we're into the middle of June and still haven't got confirmation or any communication of ANY kind with the artist alley head since the second week of May.
Right now the rest of the staff are trying to track him down and figure out what's up because apparently they can't find him.
And judging by the AI forums there's at least six people who have posted who are in the same boat as we are.
I'm still trying to do everything I can to go, but I'm really frustrated about the artist alley situation right now. I hope they don't have the same guy next year.
*Edit* I think my friends and I are in agreement that this is a bad year for AI, so I think we're pulling out and will try for Sugoicon in Kentucky this October.
